A brutal weekend ahead
It's been a quiet year on this blog but a busy time doing events. So far between us we've completed:
Cambridge Half Marathon
Mumbles Duathlon
Birmingham Velo (42 miles)
Slateman Duathlon
Star Wars Half Marathon
Endure 24
Port Talbot Half Marathon.........
Phew!
This weekend Mike will be competing in the Seriously Brutal Duathlon (Half) in Snowdonia. This starts with:
a 5 mile run around the hills of Llyn Padarn, Llanberis, then ...
58 miles cycling around Mt Snowdon (2 laps around the mountain over Pen Y Pass) finishing with ......
an ascent of Snowdon and back from Llanberis.
Really don't know how this will pan out, it's got me pretty worried as it might be the longest physical event I've done. The last time I was this far out of my comfort zone was the start line of the Everest Marathon and that was a truly brutal experience. Sincerely hope it doesn't wreck me as we have the Great North Run the following week!
It seems that a lot of events will be taking place in Snowdonia this year, which is apt as it was a place my dad loved as a reckless young man, where he went on climbing trips. Thanks to Alzheimer's Disease my dad no longer remembers any of these happy memories, nor does he know his children, grandchildren or wife. I'll be raising money for Alzheimer's Research UK, as well as the Motor Neurone Disease Association. No matter how brutal this event is, I'll do for those suffering from these terrible diseases.
